Okay, so it may sound like a contradiction in terms, but surely someone could come up with a way of making brownies, muffins, fairy cakes and the like that look totally yummy, taste totally yummy but aren’t loaded up with sugar and dairy?! I guess I’m thinking about this right now because:
- I’m currently even more obsessed with chocolate than usual. Why? Because I’m not supposed to have it!
- Both my children are mildly dairy intolerant so lots of the usual ‘treats’, like ice cream, are a bit of an “issue” for us … or, to be more accurate, they cause major-league TANTRUMS!
- One of my children in particular is a sugar monster (heaven, for her, is a fairy cake covered in sweeties!) and I don’t want her to get addicted like me.
- I’ve got to organise said daughter’s summer party and want to show all the other mums that I can do healthy and delicious. Lead by example as they say.
More on the whole children’s party thing tomorrow, I suspect! In the meantime, what I’m wondering is, please could someone come up with a selection of ‘almost’ healthy treats that would fool any kid into thinking they were ‘the real thing’? They would taste just as good but might perhaps be made with wholemeal flour, disguised with organic cocoa, with just a smidgen of sugar instead of a ton of the stuff. I don’t know – one thing I am definitely NOT is a cook – but I’m sure there are lots of people who could achieve what I’m talking about and, more to the point, I’m sure there are lots more people who would buy them! Please let me know if you would. And, if by any chance you’re the woman who talked about brownies at the Scanners meeting last night, this one’s an idea for you!
